Cruefest – What is Your Take On It?
The Colossal Motley Crue announcement has come and gone. Other than the announcement, of Motley Crue’s new single, Saints of Los Angeles getting an early release on ITunes, and as a download on the Rockband video games, there were no real surprises. Most of the information regarding Cruefest was leaked over a month ago.
Their was no real shock that Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Trapt and Sixx A.M. was going to be on the road with Motley Crue.
Nikki Sixx said the criteria for picking bands for this new rock festival was a) each band had to have some hits, and b) they had to live the rock and roll and lifestyle.
I can’t deny the logic too much. If you are going to go on the road with Motley Crue, you will certainly have to be able to hold your own.
Buckcherry is a solid choice. Especially with their newfound success, with their CD 15.
Sixx A.M. is a no brainer choice since Nikki Sixx is a member of that band as well.
I have read comments by many people questioning the addition of Trapt, and Papa Roach. Most of them are not complimentary.
Aside from Motley Crue, all of the other acts on the bill came from the mid 90’s to the 00’s. This can’t be called an 80’s has been festival, as Motley Crue is the only act from that era of rock.
Is the addition of Trapt and Papa Roach smart marketing? It could be. I don’t know how big the fan bases are for those two bands, but this festival could draw three generations of rock fans, instead of teenagers and twenty somethings that might pay to see this show. Papa Roach and Trapt are two of a short list of rock acts that have managed to sell over a million albums since the year 2000.
Could this be the festival that brings rock back to the mainstream? Time will tell. It is certainly an interesting approach, and I applaud Motley Crue for trying to bring rock back to the masses.
As far as the Saints of Los Angeles single, I didn’t think it was all that great, but you know what, it gets in your head. I bet they will have a hit with this tune!
I will be in the stands when Cruefest hits Cincinnati. Are you going to go?
Please comment and tell me what you think about Cruefest!

I saw Vince last May, and he sounded pretty good. Maybe you saw him on an off night.
I think Motley Crue SUCKS and should have given it up years ago. I will NOT be going to this concert. Vince’s voice is horrible and I used to be a big fan of the band a long, long, long time ago.
I’d definitely go to this! love the Crue and Buckcherry… don’t care about the others but they aren’t unbearable. sounds good to me
Ok, checking out Trapt’s Myspace I recognize “Headstrong” and “Stand Up.” They’re not bad, but not a band I would go see in concert if they weren’t on a bill like this.
Trapt has a couple of modest hits from 2002, Headstrong, and Still Frame. They were played heavily on the radio, and still get quite a few spins today. A little more alt rock than hard rock, but not bad.
I like a lot of Buckcherry’s songs, a few of Papa Roach’s, but cannot think of anything Trapt does. But I’m not opposed to them on the bill. If I don’t like them, it’s a perfect time to go get something to drink.
they couldnt get any good bands? why the hell put papa roach or crapcherry with the CRUE?? seriously, these guys are rock and metal (too fast and shout were good metal) and why not throw in limp bizkit and beastie boys also? thats my rant.
I vowed to not do any more Crue until they had a disc of new material…… and I am pleased I can do this I just hope we get the sober version of vince. I would hate to pay a 100 $ to see something like his solo show in Van…. And Sixx AM sold it. They are better than anything Crue has done since 94
This is from the viewpoint of a 22 year old. I’m super excited about Crue & Buckcherry. Sixx AM is great. I’ve never been a huge Papa Roach or Trapt fan, but I’m open to the live show. They don’t suck.
I hope the new album is good and generates some new singles that can be played live, but that depends more on the fans willingness to accept new music, than it does Nikki’s song writing skills.
They will be playing Northlands Coliseum on August 13th and I just might have to do a pilgrimage home to Edmonton, though the spandex, fishnet stockings, and leather chaps will have stay in the hope chest.
