The Heart Attacks – Hellbound and Heartless (2006)
In late 2006, Atlanta, Georgia’s The Heart Attacks sprung their 2nd release Hellbound and Heartless.
This disc is an interesting mix of 70’s style glam in the vein of the New York Dolls, late 80s’s sleaze and punk rock.
The songs are short, 12 tunes clocking in under 40 minutes, and have a raw sound to them.
Joan Jett lends the band a hand on the tune Tearstained Letters. Their is also an interesting cover of the Credence Clearwater Revival classic Travelin’ Band. To me, these tracks are the definite stand outs on this record.
The Heart Attacks fall into the trap where one song after another starts to sound the same. The songs have a lot of energy, but they lack a lot of variety. It isn’t terrible but will certainly be detrimental to their success.
Are The Heart Attacks the next big thing? Probably not. Hellbound and Heartless does have a unique mix of styles that doesn’t sound like a lot of other releases coming out today.
This record is one that will probably appeal more to the punk crowd, than to today’s glam fans. If you like what you hear in the videos below, check out The Heart Attacks, at their myspace page.

I’d say these guys are glam to the extent that pre-punk and the first wave of NYC punk influenced glam. They’re definitely in the vein of the Dolls and Richard Hell and Television even. They’re not bad, but I wish they did more than just rehash something that’s been done already.
