Aerosmith and Run DMC Rock Hyde Park
Whilst the rest of the world were revelling in the Glastonbury mud Aerosmith and Run DMC made waves in London, with a triumphant reunion at Hyde Park Calling.
A rainy day with performances from Aussie rockers Jet, Soundgarden‘s Chirs Cornell and The Answer amongst others was capped off last night (June 24) by an awesome set from rock legends Aerosmith – returning to the UK stage for the first time in nine years.
With a wet audience refusing to let their spirits be dampened by the weather Steve Tyler and Joe Perry joined their fans in the rain, running up and down the runway stage which extended deep into the crowds.
In a week which has seen old school rockers Iggy Pop, Pete Townsend and Ozzy Osbourne show the youngsters how its really done Steve Tyler and co. once again proved that age is no obstacle to an explosive performance.
Despite the glaring ommissions of ‘Dude Looks Like A Lady’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘Pink’ the set – which kicked off with ‘Love In An Elevator‘ – was utterly incendiary with highlights including ‘Livin’ On The Edge’, ‘Cryin’ and more recent hit ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’.
But the piece de resistance had to be Run DMC‘s appearance on stage for their 20 year old reunion with Aerosmith for the encore, with a blistering rendition of their joint 1986 classic ‘Walk This Way’ sending the crowds wild with excitement and drawing the Hyde Park Calling weekend’s festivities to a suitable close.
Comment: Here is a reunion that I never thought I would hear about again!
