Catch 22 – Soulreaper Vol. 1 (Release Year – 2007)
Eastern Ohio isn’t exactly a hot bed for new metal bands, but their is some great new talent coming out of the Buckeye State, with the band Catch 22.
Catch 22 has a sound that I would describe as a mixture of Judas Priest, Vicious Rumors and Testament. For only being a three piece band, the band has managed to craft some impressively tight songs on Soulreaper Vol. 1.
If your not completely hooked on this band, after listening to the title track Soulreaper, than you can’t be a true heavy metal fan. This is good stuff.
T.J. Berry is a good metal singer/screamer, as well as a very good guitar player.
I have a few favorite cuts off of this disc, including Soulreaper, Atlantis Rising, Crawling, and Never.
The only thing that is holding Catch 22 back is geography at this point. It has to be pretty tough to get noticed in the little town of Marietta, Ohio. If a record label gives this band a chance, they will without question have the potential to be another break out Metal Act. Metal Blade Records are you listening?
