0 Steven Tyler Makes Rare Stop at Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx for In Depth Interview With Old Friend & Fellow Rock Icon
Steven Tyler made a rare stop to appear with old friend and fellow rock icon Nikki Sixx on Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx for an intimate conversation broadcast last night. Tyler gave Sixx his first in depth radio interview — connecting on a personal level about their common goal of finding and breaking new artists, Tyler through his role as a judge on American Idol and Sixx as host of the radio show syndicated to over 70 alternative and mainstream rock stations by Premiere Networks. In a deep and personal interview, Tyler sat down with Sixx to talk about his new autobiography, “Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?,” becoming a judge on American Idol, his new single (his first US solo single ever) “(It) Feels So Good” and to catch up on lives well lived. Both icons of rock can boast a literal return from the dead to now being on top of the world.
“We got to really talk about how important it is to give young artists a shot,” said Sixx, who leads by example. “The audience is dying for new rock stars and Steven and I are using our new positions in the media to introduce the future of the music industry,” he continued. Hear their conversation on www.sixxsense.com.
Unlike the years that Aerosmith and Motley Crue spent together on tour, recording albums in the same studio and coming up through the clubs, talent is now discovered differently and these two heroes of rock are committed to finding the artists with quality of content.
Sixx Sense just celebrated a year on the air and is complemented by The Side Show Countdown With Nikki Sixx, which airs on the weekends. The daily program, Sixx Sense airs at 7pm local time Monday-Friday. Both radio shows as well as American Idol offer a platform to discover and deliver new music on the modern launching pads of mainstream television and radio. Sixx Sense can also be heard on its own SiriusXM Satellite Radio channel airing 24/7 on XM 161, Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx (sixxsense.com) and on the Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx channel on Clear Channel Radio’s digital platform iheartradio.
Each night on Sixx Sense, international rock icon, founder/bassist/songwriter of the world-renowned band Motley Crue and chart-topping band Sixx:A.M., New York Times best-selling author, clothing designer, philanthropist and photographer Nikki Sixx discusses music and lifestyle topics as he gives friend, rockers and other personalities a comfortable setting to talk openly about anything and everything with the audience listening in. Sixx is also incredibly active on his social networks, engaging with fans thru twitter, Facebook and his website. (For more information, please visit www.sixxsense.com. Fans can also follow Sixx on Twitter (http://twitter.com/NikkiSixx) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nikki-Sixx/96943760335). The show’s become the place to hear it first for guests from all walks of life, including rock royalty, the first man on the moon, authors, actors and everyone in between. Dave Grohl, Jared Leto, Lemmy Kilmister, Perez Hilton, Rob Halford, CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, Four Agreements author Don Miguel Ruiz, Dog The Bounty Hunter and others.
Sixx Sense has become the go to destination for special musical announcements including the launch of OZZFest, on site broadcasts (Rock on the Range), album premieres and specials — Slash recorded a special track by track breakdown with Sixx. Sixx Sense is a must stop for announcements of all kinds.
2 Sixx:A.M. – This is Gonna Hurt (2011)
Nixx Sixx’s other band, Sixx A.M. is back with their sophomore effort, This is Gonna Hurt. I have been anxiously awaiting to hear the follow up to 2007’s The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack.
Once again, Nikki Sixx proves that he is one hell of a song writer. The songs, and the music on This is Gonna Hurt, seems like a step above the stuff found on the band’s debut. This is Gonna Hurt feels like a more cohesive album. The Nikki Sixx narratives are gone. This CD is 100% rock although the style on the CD bounces around quite a bit. This CD is packed with that tunes that are sometimes modern rock, sometimes alternative, sometimes heavy but always good.
The album opener and title track “This is Gonna Hurt” is one of the heavier numbers on the disc. This is a super catchyrocker that ought to be the second single off of the CD.
The tempo slows down a little for “Lies of the Beautiful People” (see video below) but this hit worthy tune does a good job maintaining the pace of the album. This is a great song that is going to get a ton of airplay.
“Are You With Me Now” is a very infectious modern rock tune. The lyrics will have you signing along in no time.
When I hear the huge voice of James Michaels on “Live Forever”, it blows my mind that this guy wasn’t a force in music before Nikki Sixx found him. His vocals are quite impressive on “Live Forever”.
“Smile” is a slower number that find its way on some Pop/Rock stations. This song has an almost Beatle-esque quality to it, with some incredible music that includes piano/keyboards and violin.
Would you believe the song “Oh My God” has an almost Journey like sound to it? Listen to guitar riffs on the song, and see what I mean! DJ Ashba sounds like he was inspired by Neal Schon on this tune.
Overall, I am very pleased with the music on This is Gonna Hurt. DJ Ashba plays his ass off on this CD, and James Michael’s voice is as strong as ever. If Nikki Sixx keeps releasing material this strong, he may find even more success in the band that bears his name. This is definitely a CD worth picking up. Check it out!
If you would like a free taste of This is Gonna Hurt, you can download the song “Lies of the Beautiful People” for free from Amazon.com.

0 First Ever Rock N’ Roll Self Help Book Debuts at #4 on New York Times Bestseller List Sixx:A.M. Single Nabs Top 5 Chart Position
“This Is Gonna Hurt: Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lense Of Nikki Sixx” (William Morrow) Arrives at #4, While Sixx:A.M.’S “Lies Of The Beautiful People” Comes in at #5 at Rock Radio
The already two-time New York Times bestselling author Nikki Sixx’s latest offering, “This Is Gonna Hurt: Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx” (William Morrow) has just bowed in the #4 spot on The New York TimesBest-Sellers list. Written as a tribute to Sixx’s institutionalized sister, the book (and companion album) explores what true beauty is and embraces our own power around that. Written entirely by Sixx with no ghostwriter, the book is part journal, part memoir, and part social commentary and features his original photography. Sixx is currently on a national book-signing tour, please see below for upcoming cities/dates. He continues to host his syndicated radio program Sixx Sense and The Side Show Countdown With Nikki Sixx (www.sixxsense.com).
“In a world of YouTube overnight sensations, Nikki Sixx has shown that he is quite the contrary. A two-time bestselling author, rock icon, and overall creative force, Nikki comes into his syndicated radio show, Sixx Sense, every day with the intent of raising the quality bar higher than even the day before. He is an inspiration to us and his fans and a testament to hard work, creativity and originality and it shows in his #1 ratings in his time slots in markets like LA, Denver and Portland. With his second Top 5 single and second bestselling book, it’s a pleasure to be working with one of the most talented and creative minds in entertainment today,” said SVP Programming for Premiere Radio Networks Jennifer Leimgruber.
Sixx’s “other band,” Sixx:A.M. is currently enjoying success with the track “Lies Of The Beautiful People.” Also entitled THIS IS GONNA HURT, the album is due out May 3rd via Eleven Music. Sixx:A.M. is James Michael (vocals), Dj Ashba (guitar) and Nikki Sixx (bass).
http://Sixxammusic.com will launch in conjunction with the record, offering fans an up close and personal online relationship with the band for the first time.
“I am grateful and inspired that I have the opportunity to touch people in a unique way with my book THIS IS GONNA HURT and with the music I create with James and D.J. in Sixx:A.M. Traveling around the country, meeting fans and hearing their stories in person and on my radio show has reenergized my commitment to creating honest and inspirational content that not only serves my own creative purposes but can help and touch others as well,” said Nikki Sixx.

Sixx’s book signings have become emotional experiences frequently lasting until well after store closing. Sixx embraces the feedback from his fans and often engages in conversations that he says is as helpful to him as his work is to his fans. See what they are saying to Nikki…
Debbie:
“Nikki, you are such an inspiration to others and I think that it is great that you are willing to share your life history. I work with adolescents who have turned to substance abuse in order to deal with their trauma and your book ‘The Heroin Diaries’ helped me realize why they used to escape and find comfort in using. I am excited about ‘This Is Gonna Hurt.’ Nikki, I have a lot of respect for you as a person and I think you’re a great!!!!!”
Cherie (Queensland Australia):
“I watched every episode of several of your subjects (i.e., the Goddess Bunny) after I Google’d and found an 11 part documentary. I cried through a lot of them and felt there were similarities between us. I have never been comfortable in my own skin either. I have been just about every stage from chubby to fat to morbidly obese in my 45 years of life. I even attempted suicide at one stage. I have been called everything from ‘pig in lipstick’ to ‘the fat chick’ to ‘lard-ass,’ and many others. I am only coming to terms with myself as I get older and discover how much I am truly loved. You have been a very positive influence on my life with your tweets and Facebook page. You try to keep things positive and in turn, I have tried to stay positive as well. It’s not always easy, but that is one of the goals I have. I believe I am influencing others to see the positive as well, watching how many followers I now have on Twitter increasing daily. Thank you for the inspiration Nikki. You are a true treasure as a human being. I’m so glad you were revived after your OD so you can continue to inspire us in the days and years to come. Much respect and love.”
Brian:
“Nikki, just want to say thanks for all the great music. You inspired me to play bass guitar. You also inspired me to beat my alcohol addiction. I now use your experience and mine to teach my daughter that you can have everything in life if you work hard and believe in yourself. Thanks again and keep making great music.”
Amy:
“Do you actually realize just how MANY people you are helping?! (Not just addicts) You’re a true inspiration. On May 9th, it will be 3 years since the death of my best friend/husband from a heart attack related to a cocaine overdose. We had been together for 23 years (he had been clean for 25)… he left me alone w/ our two young sons (9 and 2 1/2 @ the time). I’ve never really felt anger, just devastating remorse… and questions… OMG, the questions! But… after recently reading (your book), you’ve opened my eyes to so much… THANK YOU!!! I’m forever thankful for your insight and honesty. You’ve given me a ‘peace’ that I couldn’t seem to find elsewhere. So thankful you are still around for your children and that you’re inspiring and teaching others that ‘Life Is Beautiful.’ I think I “got it” now… truly ‘got it.’ THANK YOU.”

1 A Note From Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx posted the following on his blog yesterday:
motley |ˈmätlē|….
adjective ( motlier, motliest)….
incongruously varied in appearance or character; disparate : a motley crew of discontents and zealots.….
noun….
1 [usu. in sing. ] an incongruous mixture : a motley of interacting interest groups.….
….
Motley has always been an interesting animal. The Magic is somewhat unstoppable because it is what it is, it’s Motley.” An incongruous mixture” to quote my digital dictionary. Even when accidents happen, we pull it together, even if only by pulling a horseshoe outta our Motley ass.:)…..
….
So to get to the point, Yes Tommy messed up his hand pretty bad, and yes accidents do happen and yes frustration does happen to everybody including Tommy who would rather play drums (even with a damaged hand) than just about anything in the whole world. But following doctor’s orders for a few shows is what we have to right now.( or cancel shows ) We all wanna say were sorry Tommy has to sit out a couple shows, But we hope to have him back up on the drums ASAP. Until then, he is at all the shows, jumping around, helping out with vocals and playing piano ever so lightly on Home Sweet Home…..
….
Now to the hero of the day…Mr. Morgan Rose, the monstrous drummer from Sevendust.Morgan flew out with only minutes to go before there were no flights left from Atlanta. He came charging in like a knight in shining armor, drum pedals and sticks in hand, stepping onstage and pretty much nailing the show top to bottom first time out. I think Morgan needs a Standing ovation for his dedication to kicking ass and helping not only Motley crue out, but the road crew and everybody else out here whose life’s would been effected. …Thank you bro…….
….
As for now, Motley Crue is a five-piece band… making history, one injury at a time…hahhaha….
….
Nikki….
….
Ps.Thank you Viggy for putting this together …………

0 An Update From Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx posted the following on his blog today:
Hello all, a small update from my head to yours,Via a wireless hub in a hotel room somewhere in the Midwest.
Yesterday was a day I’ll remember forever …
Rick Neilson is a friend, Cheap trick are some of my Heros.Rockford Illinois is home to both.
Yesterday, like always when I’m coming into town, I call Rick or visa versa and if he aint on tour we get a chance to hang out and talk music. Yesterday everything lined up perfectly. Rick wasn’t on tour.,so 10 text messages and 2 e mails later our friendly hero pops into my dressing room. Katherine was painting, I was listening down to some of the new Last Vegas music and retouching some Photos.
Meeting up with friends on the road is rare and it really does break the monotony from city to city. It was cool for Rick to meet Katherine and visa versa Finally. Both so important to me.
OK, back to the banter going back and forth in my lil domus a domus…I told him the Last Vegas guys were Huge fans (( OK, so who isn’t) and he said, hey, what if I jammed with them? My jaw dropped, knowing what it was gonna be like for them….I played him some of there music and he ran home and grabbed his 55 strat.Me and Katherine walked him onstage, he plugged in. What can I say, the guys in The last Vegas were ear to ear smiles, as was everybody.I’ve met so many of my heros, and it doesn’t always turn out so pretty. This is a night to remember for them…..…
OK, back to the dressing room, in comes Mick Mars, and he says, “what ya say we break out jailhouse rock tonight?”Looked at Rick and said,”ya wanna come up?”….The guy in the band jumped at the chance and we put the song in the set….Now its our turn to be blessed by our friend onstage . So we jammed a pretty smoking ,yet unrehearsed version of the Elvis presley’s classic and all in all ,a wonderful time was had by all…,
Next up,tour bus heading to ricks home…Now I haven’t been by his house since 1985 or so, and lets just say, it’s a rather foggy memory but this one is burnt into my memory banks with a branding iron.We ended up, hours and hours looking at his wonderful guitar collection, and what a collection it is…
I played (( well sorta ,haha )) jailhouse rock on Elvis’s acoustic, strummed on John Lennon and Jimi Hendrixs guitars and a few other insane classics that left me speechless….And last but not least, the many stories,of legends long since gone….an amazing night…
The heart of this man, the legacy of his music and his band’s influence touch me still to this day….
Rick, thank you….
Nikki

The book’s companion album, “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” (Eleven Seven Music), is also a success, having landed the No. 2 Hot Mainstream Rock hit “Life Is Beautiful” and top 30 song “Pray for Me.”A year later, reception for “Diaries” is still warm. The Motley Crue bassist recently received a Prism Award from the Entertainment Industries Council that commended his accurate portrayal of addiction on the album. New single “Tomorrow,” which is being worked to radio, was recently selected by NAADAC, the Assn. for Addiction Professionals, as one of the themes for National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
Sixx remains hot on the topic of recovery and is considering other methods to help spread awareness about National Recovery Month and the Mental Health Parity Act, which provides parity between health insurance coverage of mental health benefits and benefits for medical and surgical services.
“Here we are a year later and [I’m thinking], ‘What can I talk about, what can I say that will make people that are in recovery want to stand up and support Recovery Month?'” he says. “A friend of mine said, ‘You know, the fact that you did a really honest book and it changed people’s lives, that’s something to talk about.’ It’s a year later and the book is still selling, and it’s still changing people’s lives.”
Discussing the wisdom he’s gleaned from his own recovery efforts, Sixx he’s noticed preaching to addicts that they need to stop usually doesn’t help. The “Diaries” song “Accidents Can Happen” relates to how relapse is part of recovery.
“What I used to be told [was], ‘What the f*ck’s wrong with you? Why can’t you do like everybody else? Why can’t you stop? Why can’t you act right?'” he recalls, saying “Accidents Can Happen” attempts to convey that “We all fall off the wagon. It’s only one day, it’s not the rest of your life. Pick yourself up and go again. And I think if someone had told me that at times in my life, it would have been a lot better than being ripped apart.
The purpose of “Diaries” was to deliver a message to the masses. When it comes to his personal life, Sixx tries to show by example that sobriety is cool.
“I don’t make it like a bummer,” he notes, using the term “sobo cops” for people that get uptight if they see someone drinking and the like. “I’m in a rock band, you know. There’s drinking, and when I’m onstage I see waves of people smoking pot. Can you imagine if I was like sobo cop and was like, ‘I’m not going to perform if people smoke pot at my concerts?'” he says with a laugh. “It’s like, ‘Hey, man, do what you want to do, but if you have a problem, here’s an answer, and here’s some awareness.'”

5 Cruefest 2008 – Motley Crue
Before Mötley Crüe started their set, the winners of the Rock Band competition performed/played Bang Camaro’s Push Push (Lady Lightning). They screens of the game being played showed up on the giant screens on the left and right hand side of the stage. It had to be cool for these kids to be on stage in front of thousands of people.
Mötley Crüe’s stage opened up with an angelic looking image glowing though the black curtain that kept the stage hidden, this image was followed up with a Devil complete with pitchfork. I don’t think anyone knew what to expect before the curtain dropped.
Mötley Crüe has been known to put on a huge stage production and Cruefest ’08 is no exception. The stage has the huge steel letters Los Angeles in Reverse. The light show and sound were fantastic.
Mötley Crüe’s set list included the songs “Shout at the Devil”, “Kickstart My Heart”, “Dr. Feelgood”, “Live Wire”, “Don’t Go Away Mad” “Sick Love Song”, “Same Ol’ Situation”, “Primal Scream”, “Looks that Kill”, “Girls Girls Girls” and new songs “Saints of Los Angeles” and “Mother Fucker of the year” and an encore of “Home Sweet Home”.
I don’t know how Mick Mars manages to perform to the level he does on stage. His battles with ankylosing spondylitis has him in a lot of pain. Regardless if he is overwhelmed with pain, he plays to the best of his ability. He was great in Cincinnati. He played a bunch of solos including one that he borrowed from Jimi Hendrix. Awesome!
I thought Mötley Crüe as a whole sounded great, and if they didn’t I would gladly say so. My wife didn’t think Vince Neil was singing all the words, but I though he sounded pretty good for the most part. There was a part of “Mother Fucker of the Year“, where he looked like he forgot a lyric. You can see it in the video below. He recovered pretty quickly though.
“Saints of Los Angeles” was pretty cool. The song closed out with the gang vocals of James Michael, Jacob Shaddix, Chris Brown and Josh Todd.
It seems that the Mötley Crüe Tittycam (or Tit E. Cam if you prefer) has taken the place of Tommy Lee’s drum solo which there was none. One of the things you could always count on at a live Motley Crue show was an over the top drum solo by Tommy Lee. I was disappointed that he didn’t do something special this year. This was about my only disappointment with this show.
Motley Crue’s set was great, as was Cruefest’ 08. I can’t wait to see what the Crüe has in store for us on Cruefest ’09! I will definitely be there!
I have included some of my favorite pictures from the Mötley Crüe set, and a couple of video clips as well. Enjoy!

2 Cruefest 2008 – Sixx A.M.
One thing that was pretty amazing at Cruefest, was how fast they tore down and set up the stage for the next band. If you were late getting to Cruefest, chances are you missed Trapt, and Sixx A.M. Luckily, I was there right at 5 for Cruefest, and I didn’t miss a minute of the action.
Sixx A.M. took the stage, and myself by surprise. I have listened to the Heroin Diaries several times since its release, so I am pretty familiar with all of the songs, but I have never seen singer James Michael, or guitarist DJ Ashba live.
Sixx A.M. didn’t have the longest set, but the played all of the popular songs off The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack including, “Tomorrow”, “Accidents Can Happen”, “Pray For Me”, and closed out their set with “Life Is Beautiful”. I knew they would be good, but I didn’t expect to like them as much as I did. Sixx A.M. was excellent live, so good in fact that Nikki Sixx may have to do a second album with this group.
Nikki Sixx is obviously the star in this band. At no point did he try to upstage Michael or Ashba, in fact, I thought for Sixx A.M. being a side project that they appeared to have pretty good chemistry as a band. I would definitely pay to see these guys again! Sixx A.M. was certainly a highlight in Cruefest.
The following clip is Sixx A.M. performing “Life is Beautiful“. Enjoy!

5 58 – Diet For A New America (Release Year – 2000)
Before Sixx A.M. ever saw the light of day, Nikki Sixx had another side project called 58. The name of this group came from Nikki’s year of birth. The band members also had Sixx’s former father-in-law, Dave Darling, session drummer Bucket Baker, and Steve (Son of Barry) Gibb.
Those of you looking for something Motley Crue like, or even Sixx A.M.- like for that matter, you wont know what to think about 58.
One quick look at the song titles and it isn’t too hard to figure out who wrote the majority of the material on this record. Sixx and Darling penned most of the material on Diet For A New America.
Quite honestly, this is more of the type of release I would expect from Tommy Lee, than Nikki Sixx. This music is a radical departure from the hard rock tunes that I am used to hearing Nikki Sixx play on.
I am not a fan of this style of music, but I hear little bits and pieces of Nine Inch Nails type of industrial rock fused with an odd mixture of alternative, and pop music.
This CD is an interesting listening experience, but would likely serve fans of alternative music more so than the hard rocking fans of Motley Crue.
You can pick copies of this disc up from Amazon.com for very little money. Die hard Sixx fans may want to check this out. All others will probably want to avoid this disc.

22 Motley Crue – Saints of Los Angeles (2008)
After much too long of a wait, 8 years to be exact, we finally have a new Motley Crue disc with all new material.
It has been far too long since the L.A. bad boys have released any good new material. Their last couple of studio albums have been disappointing in my opinion. I have been hoping that Saints of Los Angeles would put Motley Crue back in form.
So was S.O.L.A. worth the wait?
The opening cut, L.A.M.F., sounds like the band was looking for an epic opening ala, In the Beginning from Shout at the Devil. Sadly, this isn’t it. This track is annoying, and should have been left off of the album.
Face Down in the Dirt is the song that should have led off Saints of Los Angeles. This hard rocking tune is one of the better tracks on S.O.L.A.
What’s It Gonna Take is an o.k. track that feels a little bit like filler to me. It isn’t the worst Crue song I have ever heard, but it is far from their best.
I like the tune, Down at the Whisky pretty well. This song would have fit in well with the Girls, Girls, Girls album.
Chances are you have already heard the title track, Saints of Los Angeles a few times as have I. I liked this tune as soon as I heard it, and still do.
Motherfucker of the Year is pretty much the main lyric of this aptly titled song. The song writing is pretty simple stuff, but Motley Crue makes it work. The content has pretty much guaranteed that this tune will get no radio airplay. I doubt the band cares. I like it.
The Animal in Me is a mid-tempo song that feels like another filler song. It isn’t terrible, but just an average Crue song. It does break up the pace of the record, but that is about it.
Welcome to The Machine is not a Pink Floyd cover song (thank goodness). This hard rocking tune is growing on me with each listen.
Just Another Psycho is one of those songs that you either love or hate. Mick Mars has some cool guitar riffs on this song. The lyrics are kind of silly, but this song is catchy.
Anyone that has read the Nikki Sixx book, The Heroin Diaries, will automatically recognize the song title, Chicks = Trouble. This seems like a quick cash in for Nikki Sixx. Vince Neil makes this song work. This song also sounds as if it would have been home on the Girls, Girls, Girls album.
This Ain’t A Love Song is another tune that is just o.k. This isn’t as good as Sick Love Song from the 2005 Red, White and Crue greatest hits compilation, but it doesn’t suck either.
White Trash Circus has a cool sleazy groove to it. I didn’t like this song at first, but it is definitely another tune that will grow on you.
Goin’ Out Swinging is the song that Motley Crue went back into the studio to record, after the album was finished. This late addition was desperately needed on S.O.L.A. Not only is this one of the better songs on the disc, but it gives the Crue a hard hitting tune to close out the album with.
I played the heck out of this disc while I was on vacation last week. While I don’t think this is Motley Crue’s best work, it is most certainly a return to form for the L.A. hard rockers. For this listener, S.O.L.A. was worth the wait!
Recommended Listening!
