Interesting to read the American perspective of Whitesnake, their legacy in the UK is a bit more important I feel. Rather than “one huge album” and “a bunch of cheesy videos”, over here they have a legacy stretching back to 1978, numerous chart singles despite lack of radio airplay, a number of hit albums, big UK tours and a following that put them on the famous Monsters Of Rock bill and Reading bill a number of times. For many years Whitesnake were a leading light in the UK rock scene.
America pretty much ignored Whitesnake till Slide It In but if this album really does encompass all eras of the band as Doug Aldrich states then I’m very interested. Love Hunter, Ready An’ Willing and Come An Get It for instance are all excellent hard blues/rock albums that I still love and I sincerely hope that this album isn’t merely aimed at the MTV market – it still pains me to see Whitesnake lumped in with the hair metal stuff, the complete catalogue deserve better than that, and if at least some of this disc revisits the earlier, pre-Slide It In style I’ll be happy.
Crap cover though…..

Ask Marcelo. He is the expert on who sucks balls.
But do they suck balls?
Except that it’s fun! I know I’ve had a blast. I can’t speak for Marcelo, but I suspect he’s had his share of fun too. I was laughing about Rock and Roll and Meandering Suck Balls Nonsense on my drive home last night. That was some funny stuff. Perhaps it was a “pissing contest,” but it was a very good natured one in which I think everyone was happy in the end.
I think the differences come from there being three kinds of fans: We don’t need to consider casual fans, because they aren’t into music enough to care about any of this. The other two are diametrically opposed. On one hand, you have the fan who likes what he likes, good or bad, makes no apologies for it and doesn’t feel the need for music to challenge him or itself. The other fan, while perhaps given to an occasional guilty pleasure, views music as an organic being that should change and challenge and grow. The former is looking for a good time (often the same old good time) and the latter is looking to be moved and stimulated. I think some of the clashes here are the result of the differences between these two types of fans.
Oh yeah, Whitesnake still sucks!
This is turning into a pissing contest…..
Rock is Rock, we all have our opinions…..but personal attacks don’t serve any useful purpose…….
Rock and Roll and Meandering Suck balls Nonsense. I love it!
That has a nice ring to it….LMAO!
Don’t let up on me now. I was just getting ready to change the name of my blog to Bob Vinyl Sucks Balls.
Hehe..yeah Bob they ruled the cassete deck in my car and my CD player now. That’s all I was saying! I have absolutely nothing against bands that make money too..
As for the bands you blog, is really unfair from me to criticize, because they’re just not my cup of tea. most of then, not all. Of course every now and then there’s something I enjoy immensely over there, but I can pretty much expect you bashing it for lack of originality or some other reason linked to the past or their legacy or therefore lack of it. I guess you’re right, I pretty much live in the past and I am definitely a rock person. Never cared for bland pop rock and I’m pretty sure at this point that I never will. But I will keep reading your blog and talking back to you here, you can count on it 😛
I was never a huge Whitesnake fan, although Slide It In was a truly great album, just before they went all MTV and ballad crazy.
“Fool for you Lovin'” is still their best tune.
anyway, cool site. glad I found it.
