Michael Schenker Group - In the Midst of Beauty (2008)
Michael Schenker returns with a brand new CD, and quite possibly the best MSG lineup since the ’80s.
Gary Barden, who is often considered the best MSG vocalist, returns to the microphone on In the Midst of Beauty.
This disc also features the talent of Neil Murray (Whitesnake), Don Airey (Whitesnake, Deep Purple) and Simon Phillips (MSG, Satriani, Toto).
As always, MSG features the stellar guitar work of Michael Schenker. If you are familiar with any of MSG’s prior albums, you know you are going you are going to hear plenty of guitar riffs with that great Schenker trademark sound.
What is cool about this album, is that it seems to be more of a complete band output, than just Schenker playing over the top. Don Airey’s Purple-esque keyboards are often present adding a whole new layer to MSG’s music. This disc has a 70’s classic rock vibe about it, but the production and sound is top notch.
The last couple of MSG albums have been somewhat disappointing, and this is definitely a return to form for Schenker and company. This is easily the best album by MSG since the Robin McAuley era.
This CD will be released in May, and you will definitely want to add this to your list of discs to purchase soon! In the Midst of Beauty will likely find itself in many top album lists at the end of 2008!.

Michael has always been my favorite guitarist. His feel, sense of melody and incredible tone are unmatched. Hopefully, this will be the start of great things to come.
Eagerly awaiting new music from this all-star lineup of some of the worlds finest musicians!
I am a great fan of Schenker, and am eagerly anticipating this new album. Whilst I disagree that MSG’s last few albums were not very good, from the sound clips of the five songs I have heard the new CD should be up to the standards we come (and hope) to expect from Michael Schenker. He seems to really have got his act together, lets hope it stays this way!
To say that Schenker’s most recent efforts were disappointing is tantamount to saying you haven’t heard them! How can you possibly berate ‘Tales of Rock ‘n’ Roll’? Schenker never turned his back on the ’70’s vibe’– he has carried the rock torch with fresh stuff like no other for the last 20 years! He has never sat on his laurels. I look forward to adding ‘In the Midst of Beauty’ to my Schenker arsenal, which includes such fine recordings as Arachnophobiac, Be Aware of Scorpions, The Unforgiven and Written in the Sand!
As much as I tried, I could not get into the Tales of Rock N Roll.
I did kind of like the Unforgiven, (which no one else seemed to like). Different strokes I guess!
this is a great album ive heard it and love it good luck Michael n Gary
Love the sound samples I’ve heard as well. While I don’t think MS recent offerings are bad, I would not rate them up with Assault Attack or the first two MSG releases nor The Unforgiven which I feel is his best “later release”. In the Midst of Beauty may be his best recent release.
3 of the songs are rip offs of other songs. The biggest rip off is the song is “I want you” they stole the chorus from the Helloween song “I want out”, even the vocal delay part, “I want out out out” they changed it ti “I want you you you”. Not very creative. But Gary does sound great.
“This is easily the best album by MSG since the Robin McAuley era”
I disagree with above sentence, all CD’s after the Robin Era are better….
Much better hardrock, more adventure…no commercial tunes.
However, his best release ever is “Assault Attack” !
Looking forward to it, when Michael Schenker is on fire, and from what we have heard on the net it does sound excellent too. A big
welcome back!!!

Come on guys, lets be honest Arachnaphobiac and Be aware of Scorpions were pretty poor albums by comparison to the older material. I’ve seen MSG on virtually every tour they’ve done since MSG volume one and right now Michael is on fire. The samples on the web sound excellent and live will be even better.
Tales was a strange (but good) album but reading between the lines I’ll bet that wasn’t all plain sailing. No Kelly, van Landing, why not? Think about it.
Miles
Sorry, names mixed up!! David not Kelly.
